What is a black hole, and the different types of black hole

What is a black hole?

A black hole forms when a large, dying star collapses. The gravity created by this condensing matter completely overpowers any outward sources, including light.

Although a black hole emits no light, it's presence is detectable by radioastronomy equipment.

It's extremely strong gravitational pull sucks gas and dust toward itself, forming a whirling accretion disk around the hole.
The disk heats any matter that crosses it, emitting x-rays(opposite).

Remember that nothing escapes from a black hole.

Types of black hole:

Stellar mass

-Formed from collapsed cores of giant stars.
-mass a few times greater than that of Earth's son.

Intermediate mass

-100-10,000 times more massive than Earth's sun.
-Only a few identified and confirmed.

Supermassive

-Largest type
-Inhabits cores of galaxies
-From a few million to a few billion times larger than the sun.

Primordial black hole

-Smallest type
-Formed in the early universe, soon after the big bang.
